1730: The Danish East India Company ship Golden Lyon, carrying 86 sailors and 12 chests of silver bullion, is stranded on a sandbank near Ballyheige, County Kerry.

1969: A record low temperature of 2.9 °C is recorded at Phoenix Park, Dublin, which is still the lowest temperature for the date.

1997: Mullingar reports an overnight low of -2.6 °C.

2010: Storm Carmen brings high winds and rough seas to Ireland’s west coast. Heavy rain, sleet and high seas cause flooding along Galway’s Salthill promenade. The storm continues into the following day.

2016: Casement Aerodrome in Dublin records a temperature drop to -3.0 °C.
