Last Gust Before the Lull: Wind Warning Ahead of Settled Spell

Met Éireann has issued what is likely to be the final wind warning for some time, as a strong area of high pressure begins to build toward Ireland.
A Status Yellow marine warning is in effect for Atlantic coasts from Mizen Head to Erris Head to Fair Head, where south to southwest winds will increase to force six or seven from midnight on Monday until midnight on Tuesday. A small craft warning has also been issued for the same stretch.
After an unsettled start to the month, weather models are signalling a major shift in the atmospheric pattern. High pressure is forecast to build strongly from the Atlantic during the coming days, becoming centred over or just to the east of Ireland by midweek. Once in place, this dome of high pressure is expected to block the usual train of Atlantic weather systems, keeping low-pressure areas and their rain-bearing fronts well at bay.
The settled spell could persist well into mid-October, bringing largely dry and calm conditions nationwide.
