Fresh to Strong Westerlies Prompt Marine Warnings

Marine-Warning-1200x675 Fresh to Strong Westerlies Prompt Marine Warnings

With last week’s high pressure system replaced by a more mobile Atlantic airflow, Met Éireann has issued two Status Yellow marine warnings for coastal waters.

West to northwest winds are forecast to reach force 6 at times from Loop Head to Fair Head to Carnsore Point between 01:00 and 15:00 on Tuesday.

A further Small Craft Warning is in place from Erris Head to Bloody Foreland to Fair Head for the period 15:00 Tuesday to 07:00 Wednesday, as fresh to strong westerly winds continue.

Both warnings were issued on Monday afternoon.

On land, Thursday will be a windy day, with scattered showers along Atlantic coastal counties and the risk of more widespread rain spreading from the southwest. Some uncertainty remains over the development of a complex low-pressure system which could bring stronger winds, though models differ on its exact track and depth.

In the UK, the Met Office has warned that severe weather warnings may be issued later this week as low pressure brings increasingly unsettled conditions across the country.
