Atlantic Shifts Gear: Wet and Windy Return

A more mobile Atlantic weather pattern has set in after an unusually warm and dry spell across much of the country.

On Monday morning, parts of the west and southwest experienced blustery, wet conditions, with Valentia recording 7.4mm of rain in just one hour around midday. Despite this, the Kerry station has measured only 45mm so far this month, around 60 per cent below the seasonal average.

Met Éireann has said the coming fortnight will be dominated by a fresher Atlantic regime, bringing frequent showers or longer spells of rain. Winds are expected to remain moderate to fresh westerly on most days.

Unsettled conditions will continue into the first week of September, with Atlantic systems bringing frequent rain and showers.

Rainfall will be well above average in the west but closer to or slightly below normal in the east. Fresh winds will persist.

There are signs of high pressure building gradually from the south during the second week of September, bringing drier weather to the south and southeast.
