Spring snowfall in Wicklow and Wexford

Snowfall was reported across and parts of north Wexford on Wednesday morning as heavy rainfall affected much of Leinster and Ulster.

A Status Yellow rainfall warning for five counties of Leinster was lifted at 2.00 p.m, while a similar warning for Derry, Armagh, , Tyrone and Down remains in place until 9.00 pm.

Up to 3.00pm on Wednesday, in Dublin reported 25.4mm of rainfall, compared to 24mm at Dublin Airport, 22mm at in , and 20mm in Oak Park, Carlow.

Temperatures dropped low enough overnight and early on Wednesday morning for rain to turn increasingly to snow on higher ground in Wicklow and Wexford.

Daytime temperatures remained well below the seasonal average in Wexford recording just 6c at 3.00 p.m.

Wicklow County Council took to X to ask the public to avoid the area of the Wicklow Mountains and to drive with care on the Wicklow Gap and other areas on high ground due to snowfall.

Others took to social media on Wednesday morning to post videos of snow settling in the Wicklow Mountains.

More rain on the way

Thursday will start dry, sunny, and cold nationwide, but cloud will spread from the west and south as a new frontal system brings rain from Thursday evening into Friday.

Significant rainfall is forecast for the northern half of Ireland, with western Connacht receiving the heaviest amounts.

Thursday and Friday temperatures will range from 10 to 13°C, with moderate to fresh east-to-southeasterly winds on Friday adding a colder feel.
