Buck Moon to Light Up Irish Skies This Week

Pink-Moon-1200x675 Buck Moon to Light Up Irish Skies This Week

The Buck Moon—July’s full moon—rises this Thursday, July 10th, with clear skies forecast across much of the country thanks to a nearby area of high pressure.

The moon will reach full phase at 4:37 p.m. Irish time, and while it won’t yet be visible above the horizon, it will appear full and luminous throughout Thursday night, making for excellent viewing conditions once the sun sets. With dry, settled weather in place, most areas will enjoy uninterrupted views of the moonrise on Thursday evening.

Named the Buck Moon in reference to the time of year when male deer begin to grow new antlers, July’s full moon is typically one of the most picturesque of the year, often taking on a golden hue as it rises low on the summer horizon.

Moonrise over Ireland will occur shortly before 10:00 p.m., depending on location. As the moon lifts into the twilight sky, observers may notice the “moon illusion”—a natural optical effect where the moon appears unusually large when seen near the horizon.
