Thunderstorm and Heat Warnings for Sunday

Met Éireann has issued two separate Status Yellow weather warnings for Sunday, as a spell of hot weather gives way to increasingly unstable conditions.
A Thunderstorm Warning is in place for Connacht from 3pm to 10pm on Sunday. The national forecaster is warning of heavy and thundery downpours, which may result in surface water flooding, lightning strikes, difficult driving conditions, and possible disruption to outdoor events. The warning was issued on Saturday morning.
At the same time, a Status Yellow High Temperature Warning remains in effect for several other counties, including Carlow, Kildare, Kilkenny, Laois, Longford, Offaly, Westmeath, Cavan, Donegal, Clare, Limerick, Tipperary, and all of Connacht. This warning is valid from 12pm to 6pm on Sunday, with maximum temperatures expected to exceed 27 degrees Celsius.
Met Éireann has highlighted concerns related to heat stress, a heightened risk of forest fires, and increased water safety risks due to higher numbers visiting lakes, rivers and beaches. The high temperature warning was issued on Friday morning.
The combination of extreme heat followed by thunderstorms reflects a shift towards more unsettled weather conditions.
The unsettled pattern continues into next week, with scattered showers and longer spells of rain—some of it thundery—expected each day.
Temperatures on Monday and Tuesday will dip to the mid to high teens before gradually rising again later in the week to the high teens or mid-20s. High humidity may trigger further thunderstorms later in the week.
This showery, Atlantic-driven pattern is expected to persist into next weekend and beyond.
