Rainfall amounts over the past week varied significantly across the country, with western areas recording between 25 and 50mm, according to Met Éireann.

Eastern counties were considerably drier, with totals ranging from just 2 to 15mm. The highest total was observed in Belmullet, Co. Mayo, which recorded 48.3mm—equivalent to 273% of the long-term average. At the other end of the scale, Johnstown Castle in Co. Wexford received just 0.9mm, representing only 5% of normal rainfall.

Looking ahead, the outlook remains mixed and changeable, with spells of rain and showers expected throughout the week. Rainfall amounts are forecast to be above average in most areas, particularly in the west and northwest where totals of 30 to 60mm are anticipated.

Temperatures over the past seven days were notably higher than normal. Mean air temperatures ranged from 17.3°C in Belmullet to 19°C at Shannon Airport, placing them between 2 and 4.1 degrees above the seasonal average, with the midlands and northwest recording the most significant departures.

Soil temperatures also remained well above average, ranging from 17.2°C to 22.9°C, or 2.5 to 6.7 degrees higher than usual.

Over the coming week, mean air temperatures are expected to return closer to normal values, ranging from 15°C in the west to around 17°C elsewhere. However, soil temperatures will likely stay above average nationwide.
