Blue Skies Rule in Dublin’s Driest Week

Dublin has enjoyed one of its brightest weeks of the year with sunshine levels well above seasonal norms.
According to Met Éireann, Casement Aerodrome recorded 50 hours of sunshine over the past seven days, 148 per cent of the usual amount for this time of year.
The clear skies came with an exceptionally dry spell for the Greater Dublin Region. Less than 1 millimetre of rain fell during the week, making it the driest part of the country. By contrast, parts of Donegal saw 18 millimetres of rainfall and western and northwestern coasts had the dullest skies.
Temperatures have been close to average in recent days but much warmer conditions are expected as the week goes on. Forecasters say mean air temperatures will rise to around three to four degrees above normal with very warm days and warm, muggy nights. Soil temperatures are already well above average and will remain so.
The coming days will bring a mix of weather with warm sunshine and occasional thundery rain, especially in the south, southwest and southeast. Later in the week conditions should become generally drier although sharp showers may still affect the far southwest. Sunshine amounts are expected to remain near or above normal nationwide.
