Met Office and Met Éireann Warn of Stormy 24 Hours

The UK Met Office has issued a yellow thunderstorm warning for all six counties of Northern Ireland on Thursday, warning of possible disruption from heavy downpours.
The alert covers Antrim, Armagh, Down, Fermanagh, Tyrone and Derry from midnight until 10pm on August 14th. While some areas are expected to remain dry, forecasters say scattered heavy showers and thunderstorms are likely to develop through the day, bringing the risk of localised flooding, difficult driving conditions and travel delays.
The Met Office said lightning strikes and hail are possible in the most intense cells. “Whilst some places will remain dry, heavy showers and thunderstorms could cause disruption on Thursday,” the warning notes.
The warning comes as Met Éireann has issued a Status Yellow thunderstorm alert for Clare, Kerry and Limerick for today, in place from 3pm to 9pm. The national forecaster warns of heavy downpours, lightning and possible localised flooding this afternoon and evening as humid air combines with unstable atmospheric conditions. Motorists are advised to take extra care where surface water builds up quickly.
Thunderstorm activity is expected to drift further north by this evening, with intense downpours possible in parts of north Leinster and Ulster.
