Dublin was almost completely dry this past week, with just 0.1 millimetres of rain recorded at Dublin Airport, according to Met Éireann.

Much of the country also experienced drier-than-normal conditions, with rainfall totals ranging from 1 to 67 per cent of the seasonal average. The wettest spot was Claremorris, Co Mayo, where 14.3 millimetres fell.

The coming week is expected to remain drier than average for most areas, though showers will occur at times. Some of these may be heavy or thundery, bringing the potential for localised high accumulations.

Mean air temperatures over the past week were above average nationwide, ranging from 16.6 to 18.9 degrees. This was between 1.6 and 3.1 degrees above normal. Mean soil temperatures were also higher than usual, ranging between 17.0 and 19.7 degrees, which is 2.2 to 3.7 degrees above average. Forecasters expect it will stay warmer than average in the coming week, with mean air temperatures one to three degrees above normal and soil temperatures remaining well above normal.

Sunshine levels were close to or above average across the country, ranging from 99 to 182 per cent of normal. The brightest location was Casement Aerodrome in Co Dublin, which recorded 61.8 hours of sunshine. Valentia, Co Kerry, saw the lowest total with 30.7 hours. The week ahead will bring plenty of sunshine for most areas, although there will be some cloudier spells. Sunshine totals are likely to remain above normal.
