Met Éireann has confirmed that August 2025 was the fourth warmest August on record and the ninth warmest month overall in 126 years of observations.

The national average temperature was 16.8 degrees, which is 2.15 degrees above the 1961–1990 long-term average and 1.56 degrees above the 1991–2020 average. Several stations recorded maximum values of up to 28 degrees on August 12th during the warmest spell of the month.

Rainfall was below average in most areas. Ireland as a whole received 75 per cent of the long-term average for August, making it the driest August since 2022 and the 22nd driest since 1941.

The lowest monthly rainfall was 30.5 mm at Moore Park, Co Cork, while the highest was 148.2 mm at Newport, Co Mayo. Dublin Airport recorded its driest August since 2005.

Sunshine levels were above average in the east, with Casement Aerodrome measuring 190 hours, but below average in the west, with Knock Airport recording 87 hours.

Six stations reported their warmest August on record, while several long-standing stations had their highest August temperatures since 1995.

Nine stations also reported record high minimum temperatures for August. No air or ground frost was observed.

Storm Floris, named by the UK Met Office, passed to the north of the country on August 4th bringing the strongest winds of the month to the northwest.

Later in the month, the remnants of Hurricane Erin influenced conditions, driving several weather fronts across the country in a westerly flow.
