Ireland is set to experience a prolonged spell of unsettled weather in the coming weeks, according to Met Éireann’s latest extended forecast, with drier, more settled conditions unlikely to arrive until mid-November.

For the week beginning Monday 27 October, low pressure systems are expected to dominate, bringing above-average rainfall and temperatures near or slightly above the climatological norm. Showers and windy spells are likely to be frequent throughout the week.

The trend of unsettled conditions is predicted to continue into the first week of November, with low pressure remaining the dominant influence. Mean temperatures are expected to remain slightly above normal, while rainfall totals are forecast to exceed typical levels for the time of year.

By the middle of November, there are tentative signs of a shift towards more settled weather. Forecasts for the week of 10 to 16 November suggest some high pressure anomalies over Ireland, with temperatures slightly above average and rainfall near or just below normal.

For the final week of the extended outlook, 17 to 23 November, Met Éireann indicates a slight signal for drier and more settled conditions. Temperatures are expected to be around the climatological average, with rainfall amounts below normal.

The forecast highlights a sustained period of unsettled weather for much of November, with strong winds, rain, and showers likely to affect much of the country before more stable conditions gradually take hold later in the month.

The UK Met Office has shared a similar outlook for the second half of November, stating, “From mid-November, while there is an increased chance of more settled spells, the likelihood of whether settled or unsettled conditions are more prevalent are reasonably balanced.”
