Wexford Leads the Country in Sunshine

The southeast has enjoyed a week of bright and sunny weather while much of the rest of the country has seen above average rainfall.
According to Met Éireann, Johnstown Castle in Wexford recorded 36.6 hours of sunshine, 76 per cent above the normal total, making it the sunniest location in Ireland. Elsewhere in the south and east, sunshine totals were also well above average. Malin Head in Donegal recorded just 14.4 hours or 79 per cent of its usual amount.
Rainfall was heaviest in eastern counties with totals between 26.5 and 55.3 millimetres or up to 240 per cent of the expected amount. Gurteen in County Tipperary recorded the highest rainfall. Atlantic coastal counties saw totals closer to normal with 28 to 37 millimetres. After a mix of showers at the start of the week, dry and bright conditions are expected on Tuesday and Wednesday, although rain will return later with heavy downpours likely.
Temperatures have been near average with air temperatures between 9.3 and 11.2 degrees and soil temperatures above normal ranging from 10.5 to 12.8 degrees. Cooler weather may bring grass frosts in the north early this week before temperatures rise again as conditions become more unsettled.
