ESB has marked the completion of a €23 million public EV charging programme with the opening of a high power charging hub at Airside Retail Park in Swords, Co Dublin.

The investment was co-funded by the Government’s Climate Action Fund and ESB, with €10 million from the fund and €13 million from the company.

The programme began in 2018 under Project Ireland 2040 and the National Development Plan and aimed to expand and upgrade Ireland’s public EV charging network. It has delivered over 55 charging hubs, including 52 high power hubs capable of charging multiple vehicles simultaneously, upgrades of 50 standard chargers to fast DC chargers, and replacement of 247 standard chargers.

Minister for Climate, Energy and the Environment and Minister for Transport Darragh O’Brien said the network is helping more drivers switch to electric vehicles and reduce carbon emissions.

Francis O’Donnell, ESB ecars Manager, said the new hub reflects the company’s commitment to faster, more accessible and reliable EV charging.

ESB has been developing public EV charging infrastructure since 2010 and now operates over 1,600 charge points across Ireland.
