Overnight water restrictions introduced in Brosna

Uisce Éireann has announced overnight water restrictions for customers supplied by the Brosna Water Treatment Plant on the Kerry and Limerick county boundary over the next two nights in order to protect daytime supplies for homes, businesses and industry.
The measures are being introduced due to increased summer demand on the system. Restrictions will be in place across the townlands of Shanabally, Shanafona, Gortroe, Kilmanihan, Feale Bridge and surrounding areas.
Charlie O’Leary of Uisce Éireann said the night-time curbs were designed to minimise disruption to customers while allowing the reservoir to replenish.
“We are mindful of the inconvenience, but it is essential to safeguard continuous daytime supply,” he said. “We are monitoring the supply closely and understand the frustration this may cause. High demand during good weather places additional pressure on the network.”
Customers are being asked to conserve water where possible. Suggested steps include turning off the tap while brushing teeth or shaving, keeping a jug of water in the fridge instead of running the cold tap, and reusing water from food preparation or washing up for watering gardens.
The utility warned that water may be discoloured each morning after restrictions are lifted. Running the cold kitchen tap for several minutes, up to 20 minutes if necessary, should restore clarity. The water is safe to drink once clear. Customers who continue to experience issues can contact Uisce Éireann’s 24-hour helpline on 1800 278 278.
