Funding Boost for Irish Forest Tree Nurseries

The Government has opened applications for the fourth tranche of the Innovative Forest Technology Scheme, Module 2, offering up to €250,000 to support Ireland’s forest tree nurseries.
The funding aims to increase the supply, quality and diversity of native trees, helping the country meet its ambitious planting targets under the Forestry Programme 2023-2027.
Minister of State for Forestry, Farm Safety and Horticulture, Michael Healy-Rae, said the scheme will help nurseries produce high-quality trees while supporting rural businesses and creating new opportunities for entrants to the sector.
The scheme is open to commercial Forest Reproductive Material suppliers, including nurseries and seed collectors, as well as private or third-sector organisations. It covers up to 100 per cent of the cost of new equipment, with a maximum of €250,000 per investment. Minimum investments start at €10,000, and €2,000 for seed collection projects.
Eligible projects include seed collection and storage equipment, polytunnels, irrigation systems, transplanting and grading machinery, biosecurity measures such as water treatment and refrigeration, and costs associated with native tree seed.
Only new materials and specialised equipment are supported, and applicants must be registered as suppliers of Forest Reproductive Material. Proposals must include a business plan covering at least two years and, where relevant, planning permission for fixed structures.
Applications for the scheme close on 31 December 2025, providing a timely opportunity for nurseries to expand capacity, improve quality and contribute to Ireland’s green future.
