1954: The Irish Times front page headline reads “Second Summer At An End” as a warm spell gives way to much cooler conditions.

1968: The Meteorological Service reports that August was the sunniest in more than 50 years at Malin Head, Co Donegal.

1986: Wind gusts of up to 90 km/h are recorded in the northwest.

1990: Met Éireann announces the driest August in a decade, with Malin Head enjoying its sunniest summer since 1977.

2005: The warm start to September continues, with temperatures reaching the low to mid-20s.

2008: A low-pressure system to the north of Ireland brings strong winds and heavy rain.

2016: Lightning is observed at several stations in Munster and Leinster, while Johnstown Castle, Co Wexford, records 31mm of rainfall.

2017: Oak Park, Co Carlow, reports the month’s highest maximum temperature of 23.4 degrees.

2020: An 18-day dry spell begins at Moore Park, Cork Airport and Roches Point in Co Cork.
