On this day, 24 September 2018, Ireland recorded an exceptional Mean Sea Level Pressure (MSLP) of 1041.3 hPa at three stations: Malin Head in Donegal, and both Cork Airport and Sherkin Island in Cork.

What makes this record particularly remarkable is that it came just days after Ireland was impacted by a series of storms.

Between 16 and 20 September, Storm Ali brought widespread disruptive winds and heavy rain to the North and West, followed closely by Storm Bronagh, which passed to the east, delivering heavy rain across the South and East.

Meanwhile, remnants of Hurricane Helene also influenced the weather across the country during this period.

By 22 September, high pressure had established itself over Ireland, becoming the dominant weather feature and persisting through the end of the month.
