Kerry records heaviest rainfall nationwide

Rainfall across much of the country was well above average last week, according to Met Éireann. Valentia recorded the highest totals with 100.9mm, more than two and a half times the normal amount.
Cork Airport registered 58.6mm, double its usual figure, while Roches Point saw 45.2mm, also more than twice the average. Malin Head was the driest station, with 23.2mm, about three quarters of normal levels.
Forecasters expect the coming week to remain unsettled, with further rain and showers moving in from the Atlantic. The west will continue to bear the brunt of the rainfall, while eastern counties are likely to be somewhat drier.
Mean air temperatures last week were close to or slightly below seasonal norms, ranging from 4.8 degrees in Mullingar to 7.7 degrees in Valentia. Soil temperatures were generally near normal, between 5.4 degrees in Ballyhaise and 8.3 degrees in the southwest. Milder conditions are expected in the days ahead, with average temperatures two to three degrees above normal, typically between 7 and 11 degrees. Soil temperatures should remain steady, with a slight rise possible in the south and southwest.
Sunshine amounts were well above average across most of the country. Valentia recorded 100.9 hours, more than two and a half times the norm. Johnstown Castle reported 68.5 hours, while Cork Airport had 58.6 hours. Inland stations also saw strong sunshine totals, with Ballyhaise at 49 hours and Oak Park at 40.7 hours. Malin Head was the only station below average, with 23.2 hours.
Met Éireann expects sunshine to be more limited in the coming days as unsettled weather returns, particularly along Atlantic coasts. Sunshine amounts are likely to trend closer to or below average as changeable conditions persist.
