Sunshine breaks through in the southwest

Following a cloudy start everywhere to Tuesday, it brightened up in the southwest and west with good spells of sunshine developing.

It was much cloudier further east however.

Live webcams from Buncrana, ; Incydoney, ; Dublin Port; The Aran Islands in ; and Ballybunion, , showed contrasting cloud cover with a west to east split.

Meanwhile, a Status Yellow Rainfall Warning has been issued for five Northern Ireland counties, effective from 2:00 AM to 9:00 PM this Wednesday.

The UK Met Office alert covers , Armagh, Down, and eastern parts of Tyrone and Derry, with high ground in Antrim and bracing for up to 60mm of rain.

Other areas can expect 20-30mm of rainfall.

There is a risk of sleet and wet snow on high ground before the system clears Ulster’s north coast on Wednesday evening, with settling snow likely over parts of the Wicklow/Dublin Mountains.

Temperatures in eastern and northern counties will struggle to rise above 7°C during Wednesday.

After a frosty, dry, and sunny start to Thursday, it will begin to cloud over from the southwest as a warm front approaches.

Scattered outbreaks of rain will push into southern and southwestern counties around nightfall and will slowly extend to the rest of Ireland on Thursday night and during Good Friday.
