Cork records 60% of monthly rainfall in one day

More than 40 mm of rain has drenched south Cork in the last 24 hours.
By 2:00 PM on Friday, Roches Point in Cork recorded 40.8 mm due to a low-pressure system causing widespread washout conditions across Ireland on Good Friday.
The total represents over 60% of the Met Éireann station’s average rainfall for the entire month of April.
Elsewhere, 24 mm of rain has been recorded at Shannon Airport in County Clare.
A Status Yellow Rainfall Warning is active for 12 counties: Carlow, Dublin, Kilkenny, Louth, Wexford, Waterford, Cork, Kerry, Clare, Galway, Mayo, Down, and Antrim.
Additionally, a Status Orange Warning is in place for Wicklow until 11:00 AM Saturday, with Met Éireann forecasting heavy rain and potential localised flooding.
This wet spell contrasts sharply with last week’s dry, warm weather, when temperatures reached the low 20s.
By Saturday midday, rain will taper off to scattered showers, giving way to overcast but drier conditions.
Sunday will be mostly dry, though another rain band will arrive in the southwest by Sunday night.
Monday and Tuesday will bring a mix of sun and occasional showers, with temperatures climbing from weekend highs of 9–12°C to 11–13°C.
From midweek, high pressure will settle over Ireland, ushering in mostly dry weather and warmer temperatures of 14–17°C.
