Met Éireann Flags Rough Seas as High Pressure Breaks Down

Met Éireann has issued two Status Yellow Small Craft Warnings for coastal waters around Ireland, as sea conditions are expected to deteriorate from early Monday into Tuesday.
After a relatively calm period at sea, thanks to a persistent high-pressure system that has dominated Irish weather since early last week, a change in conditions is now on the way. Strengthening winds and a more unsettled Atlantic regime will bring rougher conditions to coastal waters over the next 48 hours.
The first warning, covering Strangford Lough to Dungarvan to Rossan Point, comes into effect from 6am Monday (July 14) and remains valid until midnight Tuesday. Met Éireann forecasts cyclonic winds increasing to force 6 or higher, which may create hazardous conditions for small vessels.
A second warning, issued Sunday morning, applies to waters from Carnsore Point to Dungarvan to Valentia. This will be in force from midnight Tuesday (July 15) until 7pm that evening, with westerly winds also expected to reach force 6 or higher.
Small craft operators, fishermen, and leisure boaters are advised to exercise caution and check for updated forecasts and marine bulletins before putting to sea.
The change in marine conditions mirrors a broader shift in Ireland’s weather pattern, with thunderstorms, heavy showers, and cooler temperatures expected across much of the country in the coming days.
