Ireland records less than 10% of average rainfall

Ireland has seen a markedly dry week, with less than 2 millimetres of rain recorded nationwide, amounting to under 10 percent of the typical weekly total. The past seven days have been drier than average across the country, according to Met Éireann.
The weekend is expected to remain largely dry, with only occasional showers or longer periods of rain. From early next week, conditions are forecast to turn more unsettled, with rainfall increasing nationwide and most areas set to experience above-average totals.
Temperatures over the past week were slightly above average, ranging from 15.4 degrees in the east to 18.1 degrees in the southwest. Air temperatures are expected to fall slightly in the coming week, staying around average for this time of year, while soil temperatures remain above average.
Sunshine amounts were highly variable. The north of the country saw the most bright weather, with Malin Head in Co. Donegal recording 55 hours of sunshine, 181 percent of the weekly average. In contrast, Valentia in Co. Kerry recorded just 9.6 hours, 31 percent of the average. While sunny spells are expected at times this weekend, overall cloud cover will increase and sunshine is likely to remain below average.
