Met Éireann issues gale warning for Atlantic waters

Met Éireann has issued a Status Yellow gale warning for parts of Ireland’s Atlantic seaboard.
Southeasterly winds are forecast to occasionally reach gale force 8 from Mizen Head to Loop Head to Erris Head. The warning comes into effect at 7pm on Saturday and remains valid until midnight.
Force 8 on the Beaufort scale is classified as a gale, with wind speeds of 34 to 40 knots (63 to 74 km/h). Such conditions can generate high waves, reduced visibility due to spray, and difficult navigation.
A separate small craft warning has also been issued for all coasts of Ireland. Southerly winds are expected to reach force 6 or higher, a strong breeze on the Beaufort scale, between 2am on Saturday and midnight on Sunday.
