Met Éireann has issued a Status Yellow rain warning for Clare, Kerry, Galway and Mayo, with up to an inch of rain expected and higher amounts possible on high ground.

The rain will be persistent and heavy at times between 8pm on Sunday and 8pm on Monday. Met Éireann has warned drivers of difficult travel conditions and poor visibility.

With the ground already saturated or waterlogged in the west, and many drains blocked by fallen leaves, localised flash flooding is likely.

Marine warnings are also in place, with two overlapping Small Craft alerts for all Irish coasts. Southwest to west winds will reach force 6 or higher from midnight on Sunday until late Monday night.

The warnings were issued on Saturday morning as unsettled conditions continue into the weekend. Rainfall totals have been highest in the west over the past week. The wettest station was Valentia, Co. Kerry, where 55.3 mm was recorded (139% of average).

Unsettled weather will continue for the opening half of November with rain, showers, and strong winds at times. Conditions are expected to turn calmer and drier later in the month as high pressure builds from the south. The latest GEFS ensembles points to less unsettled conditions as we reach mid-month.
