Rainfall five times higher than normal in south

More than 5 times the seasonal rainfall average has been recorded in County Cork during the past week.
73.9 mm was recorded at Roches Point, representing 535% of the normal rainfall amounts for the time of year.
Met Éireann says the south and southeast were the wettest regions of Ireland during the past 7 days, while accumulations were lower further to the northwest.
22.1 mm was recorded at Belmullet in County Mayo, which is 132% of normal values.
The normally sunny southeast was the dullest region with Johnstown Castle in County Wexford registering just 11.4 hours of sunshine.
The southwest was the sunniest region, with 40.3 hours of sunshine being recorded at Valentia in County Kerry.
In its latest farming commentary, Met Éireann said, “Mean air temperatures over the last seven days were close to or slightly below normal, ranging between 7.2 degrees in the northwest to 9.6 degrees in the south. It will gradually become milder as this week progresses, with mean air temperatures rising to approximately 10 or 11 degrees, which is 2 degrees above average.”
