Met Éireann Signals Warmer and Drier Late Summer Ahead

Met Éireann has released its extended weather outlook covering the period from mid-August to early September, providing a detailed forecast for Ireland over the coming weeks and the broader August-September-October season.
For the first week, Monday 11 August to Sunday 17 August, high pressure is expected to dominate the weather pattern. This will bring predominantly settled and much drier than average conditions across the country. Mean air temperatures are forecast to be mild, with temperatures above normal for this time of year.
Looking ahead to the second week, Monday 18 August to Sunday 24 August, confidence in the forecast decreases slightly. However, there is still a signal for high pressure to continue influencing Ireland’s weather. Temperatures are expected to remain warmer than average, and rainfall is predicted to be below average.
The outlook for the third week, Monday 25 August to Sunday 31 August, shows increasing uncertainty. There is a slight indication that high pressure may persist to the north of Ireland, with mean air temperatures remaining above average. Rainfall amounts are forecast to stay below average during this period.
For the fourth week, Monday 1 September to Sunday 7 September, forecast confidence is low. A very slight signal suggests high pressure may remain to the northwest of Ireland. Rainfall is expected to be below or close to average, while temperatures continue to signal warmer than average conditions.
Looking at the seasonal outlook for August, September, and October, Met Éireann’s forecast, based on C3S seasonal models, signals above average temperatures for Ireland, with overall average rainfall. Mean temperatures for the period are expected to be between 0.5 and 1.0 degrees Celsius above average. Higher temperature anomalies over mainland Europe during August are likely to influence Ireland at times.
Rainfall forecasts remain less certain, with the possibility of both wetter and drier periods throughout the season. Sea surface temperatures around the Irish coasts are predicted to remain above average, trending between 0.5 and 2.0 degrees Celsius higher than normal during the August-September-October period.
Meanwhile, the UK Met Office predicts high pressure will bring mostly dry and settled weather from 15 August to 24 August, with temperatures generally above normal.
