Met Éireann has issued a Status Yellow thunderstorm warning for Clare, Kerry and Limerick, with the potential for heavy downpours and lightning tomorrow.

The warning is in place from 3pm to 9pm on Wednesday, August 13th, with forecasters cautioning of possible localised flooding, lightning damage and difficult travelling conditions.

Thunderstorms are expected to develop in some areas during the afternoon and evening as humid air combines with unstable atmospheric conditions.

Motorists are advised to take extra care on roads, particularly where surface water may build up quickly.

The thunderstorm threat is likely to shift further north by Wednesday evening, with intense downpours possible in parts of north Leinster and Ulster. It is likely that the thunderstorm alert may be extended to other areas over the next 24 hours.

A warm week lies ahead for Ireland, with plenty of sunshine but also the risk of heavy showers and thunderstorms over the next two days. The most intense downpours are forecast for midweek, before conditions turn more settled into the weekend. Warm weather is expected to persist into the early days of next week.
