Met Éireann and Teagasc are collaborating for the first time on a national schools webinar examining how weather and climate affect farming and food production.

The event, Clouds, Crops and Climate, will take place on Tuesday, November 11th, from 11am to 12 noon as part of Science Week 2025. Aimed at Junior Cycle and Transition Year students, it will show how science helps farmers manage changing weather patterns and plan for a more sustainable future.

Experts from both organisations will deliver short presentations on topics such as how rainfall, temperature and soil conditions influence crop yields and livestock, before a live question-and-answer session with participating schools.

The webinar is free and open to all science students and teachers across Ireland. Organisers say it aims to inspire young people to think critically about the relationship between climate, food and the environment while showcasing how scientific research supports Irish agriculture.

The initiative marks the 30th anniversary of Science Week.
