Kerry Drenched as Valentia Records Highest Rainfall of the Week

Rainfall levels across the country have been running well above normal over the past week, according to Met Éireann.
The lowest total was 16.9mm at Casement Aerodrome in Dublin, which was still 105 per cent of the average for the time of year, while the highest was 84.5mm at Valentia in Co Kerry, equivalent to 246 per cent of average.
Looking ahead, rainfall totals are likely to stay near or slightly above normal in Ulster and north Connacht, with west Ulster expected to be the wettest region at around 109 per cent of average rainfall. By contrast, south Leinster is set for a much drier week with little or no rain forecast.
Temperatures have also been running higher than usual, with mean air values ranging from 12.4 degrees at Knock Airport to 14.4 degrees at Shannon Airport. These figures are between 0.4 and 1.7 degrees above normal. The outlook for the coming week points to mean temperatures of between 11 and 14 degrees, which is up to 3 degrees above the seasonal norm. Soil temperatures are also holding above average, varying from 12.2 degrees at Knock to 14.4 degrees at Valentia. Met Éireann expects little change in soil warmth in the week ahead.
Sunshine has been mixed, with near to below-average levels recorded nationally. Malin Head in Co Donegal was the brightest spot with 25.3 hours of sunshine, while Belmullet in Co Mayo was the dullest with 17.7 hours.
