Croagh Patrick, County Mayo, Ireland

Rainfall across Ireland has been well above average over the past week, with the highest totals recorded in the west and midlands.

Claremorris in Co. Mayo saw 103.7 millimetres of rain, nearly four times the seasonal average for this period, according to Met Éireann. The lowest recorded total was 23.1 millimetres at Casement Aerodrome in Dublin, 139 percent of normal.

Met Éireann says high pressure is expected to dominate the country over the coming week, bringing generally dry conditions. Rainfall is likely to remain highest in the northwest, though totals are expected to be only a quarter of the normal weekly amount. South Leinster is forecast to see very little rain.

Temperatures have been above average across the country, ranging from 12.3 degrees at Knock Airport to 14.3 degrees at Shannon Airport. Met Éireann predicts mean air temperatures will continue to be one to two degrees above normal over the next week. Soil temperatures are also above average, between 12.2 degrees at Knock Airport and 14.2 degrees at Valentia Observatory in Co. Kerry, with little change expected.

Sunshine has been below average in many areas. Shannon Airport recorded the most sun at 12.4 hours, 61 percent of normal, while Johnstown Castle in Co. Wexford measured just 8.2 hours or 32 percent of average. The coming week is expected to remain generally cloudy, with the sunniest conditions likely in the east and southeast.
