Flooding risk rises as heavy rain set to continue

The risk of localised flooding is expected to rise through the coming week as further rain and heavy showers occur each day. Ground conditions are already saturated or waterlogged.
Rainfall is forecast to be above average nationwide, with most areas likely to receive two to three times the normal amount for this time of year.
Met Éireann reports that all soils are currently saturated or waterlogged. Continued rainfall will prevent any improvement, leaving well-drained soils saturated, moderately drained soils either saturated or waterlogged, and poorly drained soils fully waterlogged.
A Status Yellow rain warning has been issued for Clare, Kerry, Galway and Mayo. Up to an inch of rain is expected, with higher amounts possible on high ground from Sunday evening through Monday night.
With saturated ground and many drains blocked by fallen leaves, localised flash flooding is likely in affected areas.
