Met Éireann and the UK Met Office has issued a Status Yellow rainfall warning for 14 counties as heavy rain is expected to move across southern parts of the country on Tuesday.

More than 25 to 35 millimetres of rain is forecast for parts of Cork, Kerry and Waterford, particularly on higher ground. Totals will be closer to 15-20mm elsewhere, with higher amounts on hills and mountains.

With already saturated soils across much of Ireland, there is a heightened risk of localised flooding.

Met Éireann has issued Status Yellow rain warnings for much of the south and southeast, with spells of heavy rain expected to bring localised flooding and difficult travel conditions on Tuesday.

The first warning, covering Cork and Kerry, will be in effect from midnight until 2pm on Tuesday. A second warning applies to Carlow, Kilkenny, Wexford, Wicklow, Tipperary and Waterford from 2am until 5pm. Both alerts warn of poor visibility and the risk of localised flooding due to persistent downpours.

The UK Met Office has issued a Yellow rain warning for Northern Ireland, including Antrim, Armagh, Down, Fermanagh, Tyrone and Derry. It will be in place from 6am until 9pm on Tuesday, with forecasters warning that heavy and persistent rain could cause travel disruption and brief flooding in some areas.

In addition to the rain alert, marine warnings have been issued for all coasts. Southerly winds are expected to reach gale force 8 at times from Belfast Lough to Howth Head to Dungarvan and on the Irish Sea.

A small craft warning is also in place, with south to southeast winds veering south to southwest reaching force 6 or higher on all coasts. Both marine warnings will remain valid throughout Tuesday.

November has been wetter and milder than average, Temperatures have been up to 5c above average in the Dublin region, with rainfall totals for the first 9 days of the month already exceeding 70 percent of the Long Term Average (LTA) rainfall for the month of November.

The unsettled conditions are set to continue through to Saturday.
