A timeline of notable weather events and extremes that have taken place in Ireland on August 24th throughout history.

1869: The temperature reaches 27.2°C at Phoenix Park, Dublin.

1986: Farmers in Tipperary and Limerick tell RTÉ News that ongoing poor weather is severely affecting agriculture. David Thompson, secretary of the Mulcair Drainage Cooperative, urges the Minister for Agriculture to visit Munster to see the conditions. Two days later, Hurricane Charley strikes the east of the country.

1990: Warm and muggy conditions trigger late evening thunderstorms across many parts of Ireland.

2018: Widespread thunderstorms affect the southeast and east on a cool day, with maximum temperatures of 13–15°C. Strong gusts of 75–80 km/h are reported.

2020: Valentia, Co Kerry, records its wettest August day in 34 years, with 52.0 mm of rain—45% of the monthly long-term average.

2021: In an otherwise average month for sunshine, Belmullet, Co Mayo, records the highest daily sunshine at 13.4 hours.
