1971: Meteorologist Seamus Miller appears on ‘Telefís Scoile’, an educational television programme on RTÉ that gave school lessons in maths, science and literature.
1996: Heavy snow closes schools in Galway, Mayo and Roscommon.
1997: Irish climbers Paul Harrington and Martin Daly conduct the first winter ascent of the north face of the Eiger in the Bernese Alps.
2002: IBM completes the installation of a new supercomputer at Met Éireann which will enhance weather resolution and forecasting.
2013: A cold spells brings falls of snow to parts of Ireland.
2017: A snow storm forces Taoiseach Enda Kenny to cancel St. Patrick’s Day engagements in Boston and Rhode Island.
