Warm Soils Give Farmers Spraying Opportunities as Fields Begin to Dry

Farmer-field-1200x675 Warm Soils Give Farmers Spraying Opportunities as Fields Begin to Dry

Irish farmers can expect generally favourable conditions for fieldwork this week following a period of widespread saturation.

Met Éireann reports that soil temperatures remain above average across the country, ranging from 12.2°C at Knock Airport to 14.2°C at Valentia Observatory in Co Kerry. These figures are 1.6°C to 2.5°C above normal and are expected to remain steady over the coming days.

With the exception of Tuesday, the week ahead should provide good drying opportunities.

Field conditions remain challenging in many areas. Most soils are currently saturated or waterlogged, with soil moisture deficits ranging from 1mm in well and moderately drained soils to -10mm in poorly drained areas.

Some soils in east Leinster are slightly drier and more trafficable. Conditions are expected to improve somewhat on light, well-drained soils this week, while poorly drained land will remain wet.
