Heavy rain and localised flooding expected

Further heavy rain will spread across Ireland later today and continue overnight into Thursday morning. The ground in many parts of the south is already saturated, raising the risk of localised flooding.
Met Éireann has issued a status yellow rainfall warning for County Cork, which saw extensive flooding on Tuesday.
More than two inches of rain fell in the far southwest at Valentia in County Kerry in the 24 hours up to lunchtime on Tuesday. Rainfall totals in Cork ranged from 37 millimetres at Cork Airport to 25 millimetres at Sherkin Island. A further 15 millimetres is expected across southern counties, which may cause additional localised flooding.
The status yellow rain warning for Cork is in effect from 11am to 11pm. Met Éireann said further spells of heavy rainfall on already saturated ground could lead to excess surface water and spot flooding.
Marine warnings have also been issued. East to northeasterly winds are expected to reach force six or higher. A small craft warning is in place from Hook Head to Loop Head to Malin Head, valid from 1pm on Wednesday to midnight on Thursday.
