Sunshine levels begin to recover after dull start to October

After one of the dullest starts to October in recent decades, sunshine totals have begun to recover across much of Ireland.
The past week remained duller than average, with sunshine levels between 35 and 73 per cent of the normal amount.
The lowest sunshine total was recorded at Casement Aerodrome in Co Dublin, which saw just 7.8 hours, while Valentia Observatory in Co Kerry recorded the highest with 13.7 hours.
Although conditions are expected to stay generally unsettled over the coming week, brighter spells will occur more frequently than of late.
Extensive cloud cover persisted over the country on Tuesday afternoon when the Copernicus Sentinel-2A satellite passed overhead. The satellite showed clearer conditions along coastal areas, with partly cloudy skies and sunny breaks visible in Tramore and Waterford City, Skibbereen in Co Cork, Ennis in Co Clare, and Dungloe in Co Donegal.
