March 2025 was the 8th warmest on record.

It was the warmest March in Ireland in 11 years and the driest on record in some parts of the island.

Met Éireann‘s preliminary data for the month shows that March 2025 was the 8th warmest on record since 1900 and the warmest since 2012.

The average national temperature for March 2025 was 8.55 °C, which is 1.42 °C above the most recent 1991-2020 long-term average (LTA) and 2.09 °C above the 1961-1990 LTA.

For only the second occasion, all 25 of Met Eireann’s synoptic stations were below the 1991-2020 LTA for rainfall during any month. The last time this occurred was in July 2024.

, County , had its driest March since 1964, when the station was established.

The Met Eireann station at in County Galway also recorded its driest March since it was established in 2005.

It also was remarkably dry in Ballyhaise in Cavan (driest March since 1953), Gurteen in (1961) and Airport (1990).

March was sunnier than the seasonal average.

The sunniest locations were Shannon Airport in (128.4 hours/115% of LTA) and Aerodrome in Dublin (141.3 hours/132% of LTA).

The month’s highest gust was reported on Saturday 29th March at Malin Head in Donegal with 46 knots (85 km/h).

The highest (19 °C, 31st March) and lowest (-4.6 °C, 15th March) temperatures of the month were both recorded at Mount Dillon in County .
