Dry Sunday gives way to more unsettled weather

Sunday was largely dry across Ireland, bringing to a close a prolonged spell of settled weather.

Temperatures reached 20 to 22 °C in most areas, though it remained cooler along the south and southeast coast.

A live webcam at Dublin Port captured a striking sunrise as Irish Sea passenger ships arrived and departed the capital.

The remnants of ex-Hurricane Erin, now much weakened after reaching major hurricane status a week ago, are tracking to the northwest of Ireland. They will bring a more mobile westerly weather pattern for the coming week.

The current dry and warmer-than-average spell will end on Monday as a band of rain moves across the country. Fresher westerly winds and frequent showers or longer spells of rain are expected through the end of August and into early September.
