Thunderstorm Alert Issued for Northern Ireland

The UK Met Office has issued a Yellow Thunderstorm Warning for six counties across Northern Ireland today, with the potential for heavy downpours and isolated thunderstorms to bring disruption to travel and localised surface water flooding.
The alert, in effect to 17:00 today, covers Antrim, Armagh, Down, Fermanagh, Tyrone, and Derry. The warning advises the public to be prepared for sudden bursts of rain that may lead to hazardous driving conditions, delays to public transport, and waterlogged roads, particularly in low-lying areas.
The Met Office said that although many places will avoid the worst of the weather, some areas may experience 20–30mm of rain in just an hour, enough to cause isolated flooding in vulnerable spots.
The warning comes as Ireland continues to experience an unsettled weather pattern this week, marked by a mix of sunshine, scattered showers, and longer spells of rain—most notably across southern and western counties.
Temperatures today will range between 15 and 19°C, with slightly warmer conditions expected later in the week as winds continue to blow from the west and southwest.
The public is advised to monitor forecasts, take extra care on the roads, and avoid driving through floodwaters.
