Tropical Storm Fernand is currently tracking north-northeast over the western Atlantic with maximum sustained winds of around 50 kt (93 km/h).

The National Hurricane Center (NHC) says the system is expected to weaken steadily over the next couple of days as it moves over cooler waters and encounters increasing wind shear, becoming post-tropical by Wednesday and dissipating by Thursday.

Long-range forecasts indicate that Fernand will remain well to the southwest of Ireland, having no direct impact on the country.

However, its remnants may contribute to the Atlantic-dominated unsettled weather already expected over Ireland in the coming fortnight, feeding into a pattern of showers, blustery winds, and variable sunshine.
