1932: The British cruiser Curaçao sinks off Donegal after colliding with the Queen Mary, with 338 lives lost.

1994: Met Éireann introduces a new radar system that can distinguish between cloud types and detect rainfall, making RTÉ’s television forecasts more colourful and precise. Michael Cleary from Met Éireann says the technology will significantly improve short-term and localised forecasting.

2013: A tornado was recorded in Banagher, County Offaly.

2016: Dublin (Glasnevin) records its highest daily sunshine for October since 1999, with 9.1 hours.

2019: Met Éireann issues multiple weather warnings ahead of the arrival of Storm Lorenzo.

2020: Cork Airport records its highest daily sunshine for October in a decade, with 10.3 hours.
