
Shannon Airport records highest temperature of 2025

Thursday, the final day of a lengthy dry spell across Ireland, produced hazy sunshine and a yearly high temperature.
18.8 °C was recorded at Shannon Airport, County Clare, marking the warmest day of 2025 to date.
The Mid-West and parts of the Midlands enjoyed the best of the sunshine when the Copernicus Sentinel-2 satellite crossed over Ireland shortly before midday on Thursday.
Galway, Clare and Limerick were largely cloud-free as temperatures here rose to above 18C.
While the day started off clear in many other areas, high cloud began to form in the late morning leading to hazy sunshine by afternoon.
In a close-up satellite view of Ireland’s east coast, plane contrails can be seen criss-crossing the sky.

It was a different story further west, with counties Clare and Galway enjoying spring sunshine.

Following a dry start to Friday with hazy sunshine away from the south coast, rain accompanied by a moderate southeast wind will push into Wexford and Waterford by mid-afternoon.
The wet weather will spread to the rest of Ireland as the evening progresses.
A clearance will follow from the west during Saturday. Spells of heavy rain will continue in the eastern half of Ireland and, in particular, in the southeast.
