NASA Image Captures ‘Tyre Track’ Clouds Over Ireland

A NASA satellite image of Ireland, taken 700 km above Earth’s surface shortly before midday today, shows cloud formations that take on the appearance of tyre tracks.
The distinctive cloud pattern is the result of wave clouds, or altostratus undulatus, which form a wavy appearance due to wind shear.
Most parts of Ireland have enjoyed spells of warm sunshine today.
The temperature has risen to 22.1 °C at Oak Park in Carlow, while Casement, Phoenix Park, and Dublin Airport have also seen the mercury rise to 21 °C.
Shannon Airport and Gurteen, County Tipperary, both recorded 20 °C.
Scattered showers are expected during Saturday and Sunday, ahead of the arrival of a band of rain along the west coast later on Bank Holiday Monday.
Temperatures will also drop back a few degrees over the weekend.
