Marine Biologist Sought for Celtic Mist

The Irish Whale and Dolphin Group (IWDG) is seeking a Marine Biologist to lead research surveys aboard its flagship research vessel, Celtic Mist.
This year’s surveys will run for seven days, departing from various locations across Ireland between May and September 2025, including Kilrush (Clare), Kilkeel (Down), Dublin, Crosshaven and Kinsale (Cork), Dingle (Kerry), Derry, Killybegs (Donegal), and Rossaveal (Galway).
The seasonal, part-time role will involve managing and delivering the data collection program aboard Celtic Mist, gathering critical information on cetaceans in Irish waters. Responsibilities include training team members in marine mammal survey techniques, overseeing data collection, and communicating project updates through IWDG’s social media channels.
At 17 meters, Celtic Mist is IWDG’s flagship vessel, equipped to accommodate eight people. Since 2012, it has surveyed Ireland’s inshore and offshore waters, successfully circumnavigating the country on multiple occasions.
Celtic Mist was donated to the IWDG in 2011 by the family of Ireland’s former Taoiseach, Charles J. Haughey.
