OPW Approves Flood Funding for Tipperary Village

The Office of Public Works (OPW) has approved an additional €27,000 in funding for flood mitigation works in Marfield, County Tipperary, as part of its ongoing efforts to support local flood defence across Ireland.
The funding, granted under the Minor Flood Mitigation Works and Coastal Protection Scheme, will go toward the removal of a collapsing wall section in the village, along with associated works and safe disposal of debris. The latest funding brings the total allocation for this project to €72,000.
The works aim to address localised flood risks in the area and improve community safety and resilience during periods of heavy rainfall.
The Minor Works Scheme, introduced by the OPW in 2009, enables local authorities to carry out small-scale flood mitigation measures where quick, targeted interventions can reduce risk to homes, infrastructure, and the environment. Since its launch, the scheme has supported 69 applications by Tipperary County Council, with more projects expected as communities adapt to increasingly frequent extreme weather events.
