Ireland’s Biggest Astronomy Festival Returns This September

milky way

Ireland’s largest public telescope festival — is set to take place on Saturday, September 20th, under the pristine dark skies of Roundwood, Co. Wicklow.

Organised by Astronomy Ireland, this much-loved annual event offers a unique mix of stargazing, science talks, and sizzling food — making it the perfect evening out for families, space enthusiasts, and curious newcomers alike.

Held in Ireland’s highest village, the Star-B-Q draws hundreds of visitors each year to witness the wonders of the universe through some of the country’s most powerful telescopes. From distant galaxies to the rings of Saturn, expert volunteers will guide attendees through breathtaking celestial sights, with constellation tours lit by Ireland’s most powerful handheld laser beam.

This family-friendly event features much more than just stargazing. Younger visitors can explore the “Creation Station” arts and crafts zone, while adults can enjoy space-themed talks designed for the general public — no science background required. There will also be telescope advice clinics, binocular classes, and exhibits inside the main hall, including trade stands and astronomy magazines.

Tickets are now available at a special early bird discount until July 31st:

  • Adults: €50 (rising to €100 at the gate)
  • Children: €25, including food

After July, adult prices will rise due to increased costs, so early booking is strongly encouraged to save up to 50%.

The Star-B-Q is also Astronomy Ireland’s largest fundraiser of the year, helping to support their outreach and education efforts across the country.
