Leak Repairs Save Over 4.5M Litres of Water Daily in Dublin

Uisce Éireann has confirmed that recent leak repair works across Dublin are saving more than 4.5 million litres of treated water every day, easing pressure on a supply system facing record demand.
Since January, four major leaks have been fixed under the utility’s Find and Fix programme. The most significant was on the Long Mile Road, where a large underground leak is now saving 3.2 million litres per day—enough to supply over 6,100 homes.
On James Street, repairs are saving 726,000 litres daily, with further savings of 326,000 litres on the Malahide Road in Marino and 286,000 litres at Merrion Row. Combined, the interventions are delivering daily water savings sufficient for more than 8,600 households.
The leak detection and repair work is part of Uisce Éireann’s National Leakage Reduction Programme, aimed at minimising water loss across the public network and improving long-term reliability of supply.
Programme Manager Declan Healy said the results highlight the importance of targeted leak repair: “These recent repairs show how impactful the Find and Fix approach can be, with millions of litres saved every day and less pressure on the wider water system.”
Demand for water in the Greater Dublin Area has reached unprecedented levels in 2025, placing serious strain on supplies serving Dublin, Kildare, Wicklow, and Meath. Uisce Éireann continues to implement a range of measures including conservation campaigns, capital upgrades, and longer-term projects such as the proposed Shannon-to-Dublin water supply pipeline.
